Campfire Cocktails in the city are back!  Join us for our seventh season of wild cocktails, campfire, culture and cuisine at the Brunel Museum. A perfect mates' night out or date for two.  We specialise in lovingly prepared seasonal botanical cocktails served around a firepit using ingredients grown in our rooftop garden or foraged close by. We source all our alcohol carefully using local brews and spirits where possible eg Bermondsey's Hiver Honey Beer and Jensen's gin.  We built the garden in 2012 as an oasis by the river where we invite you to cuddle up, toast marshmallows and watch the sun set surrounded by your friends, lovers and local wildlife.  The menu changes frequently based on what's growing in the garden.

We are so excited to welcome an amazing streetfood vendor for our 2018 season. Farm Street Kitchen come from Sissinghurst in Kent and will be serving up delicious seasonal and locally sourced hot morsels including vegan options.

This season we have two sittings: 5.00pm - 7.30pm or 7.30pm - 10pm.  This will provide more space for you and your guests and allow us to bathe you in even more glorious customer service. Entry includes admission to the roof garden and the Museum, optional guided descent into Brunel's cavernous underground Grand Entrance Hall beneath the garden, and complimentary toasted marshmallows. We will be doing 'buy one, get one half price' cocktails  between 5pm - 7pm on Fridays. Those people waiting to enter the roof garden for cocktails or those people who have enjoyed the earlier sitting are welcome to remain at the venue on the lower terrace where we shall serve bottles of wine or beer.

Here's to a great season. See you round the campfire!

Nice venue and well decorated. There were too many people however, meaning that we spent a significant amount of the night standing in the cold with waitresses brushing past us, rather than standing/sitting by the fire. Drinks were nice, but very expensive. The tour of the entrance shaft was entertaining, thanks to the fabulous guide, but consisted just of sitting halfway down the entrance shaft, whilst he told us the story of the tunnel. All in all, an enjoyable evening, but expensive for what it is, and the tour is a little perfunctory. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-09-28

This is a nice different thing to do at the weekend. The rooftop garden is nice, but as others have said, very small. Roasting marshmallows is a nice touch. Go up when the talk is on and obviously it's quieter. The guy who does the talk is great. It's is a talk not a tour, so shouldn't be advertised as such, but he explains the history of it very well. Drinks are expensive but to be expected in a place like this. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-09-22

It was a cold and wet day and as we arrived we were told that there is no shelter in the garden so we had to wait inside a building. We were able to get nice cocktail though and wait to go to see the underwater tunnel. Here you don’t really go to the tunnel but rather to the first part of it and sit there and listen the history of it. That was the best part of it. The man telling the story of the tunnel was amazing. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-09-22

Sitting around the campfire roasting marshmallows was so much fun...even though it was raining the staff was great and accommodating by giving us bin bags to put on the seats so we didn’t get wet. The experience overall was great! Drinks were too expensive but the entry price was worth it. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-09-22

The idea is nice but needs a little work. The firepit was a solitary one and you had to get in fast for the marshmallows. seats around the garden seemed out of the way. Cocktails were great but couldn't be deviated. The actor who took you into the tunnel section was brilliant. funny and captivating. sadly his projector wasn't clear enough. The Apothecary was brilliant. she mingled her way around everyone and made you feel welcome. The museum itself is small, interesting when you read the posters, the Victorian slides are good. the facilities are basic.. Loo`s are downstairs and limited space means ladies you will be queuing for a while. the seating outside the garden was a missed opportunity . looks very big brother in an eye shape. Although you are next to the river unless you knew this was there you would never know. nice hidden gem. To be done the once maybe not more. ( then bounce over the river to Brick Lane for a curry ). This was great! I really reccomend doing the earlier session as it's a lot quieter so you can get good seats and drinks faster but at the end of the session you get to see it at night (which is potentially even better than in the light!) Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-09-14

90+ people squashed onto a tiny tiny rooftop. Hardly enough space to move and limited places. Only one tiny fire which was extremely disappointing and meant only a few people had the marshmallows. Absolutely tiny event. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-09-15

Lovely setting, warm and friendly. Cocktails were nice and interesting. The tour leader was very funny and informative, such a memorable character we loved him! And the marshmellows weren’t stingy we had plenty of bowls of them for all of us! Only criticism is there was so much garden and limited seating, and often people were climbing over eachother to get to a different part of the garden but we all managed to find space. Really fun, would definitely go again. The cocktails were amazing! The space was smaller than it looked in pictures, just one fire pit. But it was a great intimate ambiance. The garden is beautiful and takes you away from the city for a moment. Not a high up rooftop, just raised above street level. Was nice chatting with folks around the garden and the tour which I wasnt too keen on ended up being fantastic. Our guide Timothy Thomas was awesome ! Highly recommend. Oh and the farm food truck... Yum :) you'll be thankful for that after those drinks. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-09-07

Amazed by some of the negative reviews. It's a mere 4 - 5 pounds, it's steeped in history and it's a unique experience. That's why this is one of the best things you can do in London relative to the expense. What were these moaners expecting?

Beautiful setting, The cocktails were certainly different, and the talk in the tunnel very entertaining and informative. You probably need more than 1 brazier as only about a dozen people can get round and need to encourage the previous sitting to leave promptly - new arrivers were standing for about 15 minutes until previous guests left Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-08-18

The cocktails were terrible . The first tasted like medicine and the second had no detectable alcohol in it. The staff were unorganised and there were too many people in a small space which meant there were health and safety issues with the fire and the candles. Also the exist stairs were constantly blocked with people queueing to come in, making going to the toilet impossible. The tour is also not a tour but a talk in the tunnels shaft. All in all dissapointing. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-08-18

i think they let too many people in, I felt claustrophobic there were friends being 'compd' for drinks, so queue jumping, not enough benchspace and no where to stand ... its a small space food was back down stairs, no chance of eating and coming back to a seat we didn't stay for the tour, it was too close for me, I started worrying about needing to get out in an emergency... it would not be a fast exit, so wouldn't go again im afraid, sorry. Our visit in 2017 was amazing. This year was really disappointing. The staff were curt and rude from the moment we arrived. Drinks were mostly premixed (at £9 a pop this seems very expensive), and as others reviews have said, tasted very diluted. Tickets were seemingly oversold, as there was nowhere to sit in the garden. Only stayed 30 minutes and then went to the nearby pub for a much more pleasant evening. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-07-27

Another amazing night! So perfect after a day out in London. I loved that they limit the tickets so you’re not too crowded and you can always find a seat. The tour ‘down the shaft’ is the highlight and the mini bar on the terrace for non ticket holders or if you prefer wine is a lovely addition! Thank you again! Some people have said the drinks are expensive but £9 for a cocktail and £4 for a beer is great for London! Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-07-28

The Midnight Apothecary is a wonderful end of week treat to enjoy delicious cocktails, naughty roasted marshmallows, home-cooked healthy take-aways within delightful established rooftop gardens near the banks of the Thames. I chose this unusual mystery venue for my birthday casual evening celebration via browsing for a few hours but I was not disappointed. Taking the overground from the Olympia was direct to the Rotherhithe station just 3 minutes walk to the venue and the Brunel Museum. Therefore easy to find and also to return from via the Canada Water station where we caught the Jubilee underground line. I wouldn't have thought of any other outdoor place to feel like in the countryside in a major city. Moreover the staff is extremely friendly and helpful from the owner to the bar tenders and waitresses. A little gem to share with your best friends for a lovely relax fun time together. I'm afraid to say this event, which I was really look forward to, is not very good. The venue is beautifully decorated but absolutely tiny, there is no where to sit because the place gets busy very easily due to the small size of it, and even standing space is very cramped. The cocktails are lovely but very small and very expensive (£10), plus there is always a big queue for the bar. There's not much atmosphere either. The crowd is on the older side (plenty of 50-60s+) for anyone who wants to know. One good thing I will definitely say is that the staff are absolutely lovely - very friendly and very helpful. Lovely garden, superb tour of Tunnel by Tim, warm welcome by Lo(La?) but drinks weren’t really cocktails, most just had one type of spirit rather than mixed, but really they barely tasted of alcohol at all - even alcoholic ones were more like watery mocktails , despite being warned they were strong by the staff. Twice mentioned this after buying 2 rounds, they again said our cocktails are strong, so we left early. Either mixologists need training or need to invest in premium spirits, otherwise won’t get repeat business on a perfect summers evening! Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-07-07

We arrived 10 minutes before the event started at 5pm, along with some other attendees. A member of staff commented on how super-eager we were. We weren’t eager we were on time to an event that I paid to be at for 2.5 hours and wanted to make sure I got my full experience In the garden we ordered drinks. My mojito was impressive to look at, and the berries tasted great, however I could not taste any alcohol. Disappointing for a cocktail. And my husband’s beer was not brought over with my drink, so he had to go back to the bar and collect it. No one handed it to him or told him to collect it when we paid. It was also disappointing that the fire took so long to be put on, as this meant there would be very little time to enjoy the marshmallows before starting the tour at 7. We actually left before having any marshmallows, and did not wait for the tour either, as we were disappointed with the event so far. I think it would’ve been easier to have a food set up in the garden or have food for sale there instead of having to leave the garden to go collect and order it, given that the time was limited. Would’ve been nice to have some music playing. Over all pretty disappointed and was a stale event Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-06-29

The garden was a bit over-crowded later on, I feel fewer tickets should have been sold, or more seating space prepared. The cocktails were delicious, though, and the talk and tour were excellently delivered and interesting. Overall a great night Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-06-15

What a great evening and a brilliant idea, loved it! The garden was beautiful, my only criticism was the space is quite limited to move around in. I would have loved to have walked around the garden and explore it a but but it was jammed packed with people. We had a comfy spot but the people opposite us said they were rather uncomfortable. Would have loved there to be 2 fire areas for marshmallows as we couldn't get to the fire as it was too busy. Would have loved to have a little talk about the garden and the plants so we could have added some bits to our cocktails to make it more interactive. Do you run cocktail making evenings? Great choice of food - best wrap I've ever had!! Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-06-09

Cute idea, poorly executed. Seating was uncomfortable and awkward. Atmostphere was weird; they need to play some music because you can hear every other person's conversation. Cocktails at £9 each were very strong - you'd think this was a good thing but they were very bland. Staff were friendly but trying a bit too hard so it all just came across fake. The tour was on very late so we didn't go and we tried to drag out staying for an hour but were so bored we went to get dinner. Overall a bizarre event; we basically paid to sit in someone's garden for an hour. I think there's good intentions behind the concept but it was really nothing special...just a bit rubbish. Save yourself the time, money and effort and go elsewhere. Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-06-08

Simply amazing!!! From Lottie answering our emails within seconds, helping us out when our flight was delayed - to warm welcome from "doorman" to bar staff, a personal, friendly welcome that warmed the heart! The awesome tour which was like a little show in itself, the atmosphere in the garden, touches like the candles and awesome drinks. Marshmellow delight...mmmmm And the street food, yum! Love it!!!! Went to the early sitting with a few friends and my daughter. The cocktails were lovely - the lilac one was particularly potent. The garden is up a few steps and is a lovely oasis of calm in view of the River. The talk in the tunnel with Tim was fantastic and very funny. Food was average - tasty enough but a bit bland for the price. Cocktails at buy one get one half price were also a reasonable price - interesting flavour combinations.

Excellent vibe and service from the staff, the talk on the tunnel was engaging and interesting and the cocktails were fantastic, with the food being great too. Really quirky and different. Rooftop gardens lovely, drinks lovely (but pricey)...love that they have a streetfood wagon however when I bought the tickets I thought there was going to be a more substantial meal...it barely hit the sides. The tour was a lovely talk but a fabulously animated and professional volunteer...really engaging...has hoped for a walk in the actual tunnels but guess we don't want to get mowed down by the overground Visited Brunel Museum on 2018-05-05
