Banish all ghastly thoughts of Black Friday. Get your woolly jumpers out and raise your thoughts and your glasses to our Midnight Apothecary Christmas sessions in the Roof Garden. We invite you to embrace the magic of 'Friluftsliv', the Nordic concept of open air living and join us for a magical and festive evening at this unique venue. Christmas celebrations start with Christmas campfires (individual firepits for hire) in our rooftop garden. There will be with s'mores to devour (toasted marshmallows squished between luxury chocolate biscuits to the uninitiated) alongside our legendary botanical cocktails. Deluxe hot rum and whisky toddies will warm your cockles by the fireside along with giant flares and of course plenty of local beer, non-alcoholics and fizz. Descend the stairs beneath the roof garden for a complementary tour of the underground Grand Entrance Hall to Brunel's Thames Tunnel - a masterpiece of Victorian engineering and one of London's most unusual performance spaces. What better way to get some Christmas grotto action than in a Victorian underground tunnel shaft. Tasty hot streetfood will be provided outside all evening by brother and sister duo https://www.loviet.co.uk
Voted one of London's best outdoor pop-up cocktail bars since we built the Roof Garden at the Brunel Museum in 2012, we specialise in lovingly prepared seasonal botanical cocktails round a campfire made by Midnight Apothecary founder Lottie Muir AKA the Cocktail Gardener. We infuse and garnish our drinks using ingredients grown in our rustic rooftop garden or foraged close by, with the menu changing frequently based on what's growing in the garden. These are all served in our atmospheric setting right next to the Thames in the heart of Rotherhithe Village. We are the best kept secret around here being nestled on top of the Thames Tunnel Shaft which was itself built in the Victorian era by Marc Brunel. The garden is lovingly maintained and is adorned with giant flares, hurricane lamps and fairy lights.
We source all our alcohol and sodas carefully using local brews and spirits where possible eg Bermondsey's Hiver Honey Beer, Anspach & Hobday, the Kernel Brewery and Jensen's gin as well as Hackney's Square Root Soda. Our wine is vegan, as is Kernel Brewery beer, and we have plenty of non-alcoholic mocktails for you. All spirits are premium brands. Once again, our menu will change according to the season so expect our take on a smoky negroni with Bonfire of the Vani-Teas with pinewood-smoked lapsang-souchong tea, Jensen's bermondsey Dry gin, campari and red vermouth, our signature Midnight Margarita with activated charcoal, premium tequila and a lime foam, our Hedgerow Sour made with whisky and our homemade rosehip & crab apple syrup; plus Sloe Time, a concoction of sloe gin, rhubarb & ginger compote & apple & ginger juice with a squeeze of lemon.
Choose between either the early sitting (5pm-7.15pm) or the late sitting (7.30pm-10pm). Roof Garden tickets are bought individually per guest and include an optional Guided Descent down into the Tunnel Shaft led by local legend & actor, Tim Thomas. All entry fees go directly to registered charity the Brunel Museum.
